Pioneer Church is an independent, nondenominational church with a rich 150 year history serving the Winters community. The worship is a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs. The teaching is Bible centered. And the atmosphere is loving and welcoming. Jesus is our passion. His life, His love, His teachings, His way of life, His atoning sacrifice.
We have gone through several name changes over the years. We started in the 1800s as the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Winters, but changed the name to First Presbyterian Church in the early 1900s. Then in the 1960s, after merging with the local Methodist Church, we became Pioneer Presbyterian Church. We recently opted to be an independent congregation, yet still holding to a Presbyterian (elder led) form of government. Bruce Chapman, a homegrown 4th generation Winters resident, serves as pastor.
Sunday mornings we have a 9:00AM Sunday Bible study for adults, 10:00AM worship service for adults and Sunday School for children. And at 11:15AM after service, “Food and Fellowship” time begins. One thing you can’t help but notice when you visit, after service hardly anyone will leave right away. Nearly everyone stays and joins us for lunch in our fellowship hall (Wesley Hall) next door. Wednesdays from 2:30PM to 4:30PM is Women’s Bible Fellowship Group in the fireside room in Wesley Hall. Wednesdays at 8AM the Men’s Group meets there.
Our Mission Statement: “As disciples of our Lord, by the power of the Holy Spirit, through prayer and the study of the Word, we are committed to nurturing one another toward a vital, mature, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, welcoming all, teaching Biblical values, healing the hurting, showing the freedom that is in Jesus Christ, and being salt and light to a world that is lost.”
